Escape the Cold Here

Escape the winter with these warmer destinations.

Sure, a winter wonderland has its perks, but after a while, the chilly weather starts to get old. Once the holiday season is over, the joy and cheer of winter fade as well. The good news is that in some parts of the world, warmer weather is ready to welcome you all year round! Whether you are looking for a city escape or a relaxing island destination, there is a warmer place waiting for you.

Here are 10 destinations where you can escape the cold this winter:

The Bahamas

Here the weather is amazing all year long. The temperatures are typically between 75-80ºF, but with hurricane season in the summer and fall months, it would be best to avoid going during that time. Winter is the high season in the Bahamas, so plan for it to be busy and full of others looking to escape the chill!

Namibia

Dreaming of an African safari? Opt for a lesser-traveled destination such as Namibia (currently high on my bucket list)! This African country brings many of the same highlights as other safari destinations and definitely delivers on seclusion. Namibia is certain to be warm for the winter with temperatures around 75ºF. The photos of this country are absolutely incredible.

Belize

Just south of the Yucatan Peninsula, this beautiful Central American country boasts the perfect weather in the winter months to escape the cold. Belize sees much less tourism than Mexico but has gorgeous beaches and lagoons. The temperature can range from 70-84ºF during this time of year. Fun fact: Belize sits on top of the second-largest living coral reef.

Cape Town, South Africa

The best time to explore Cape Town is during its summer months. When it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere is experiencing summer. This is the optimal time in terms of temperature and rainfall, however, this means Cape Town is much busier than other times of the year. Crowds will increase along with prices, but it would be worth it to experience the best of Cape Town (and escape the cold)!

Mexico

There are many places in Mexico that would be great to put on your list during this time. If you’re looking for a city getaway, consider Mexico City. If you are wanting something more tropical and along the beaches, go for somewhere in the Yucatan Peninsula. Mexico is relatively easy for US travelers to get to and an inexpensive vacation option.

Costa Rica

The wintertime is the best time to experience the lush jungles and beaches of Costa Rica. The weather is very warm and there is much to be enjoyed outdoors. Once winter comes, the rainy season is now over in Costa Rica and with that also comes peak season as well. Highs temps are around 95ºF and low temps around 72ºF.

Bora Bora

Bora Bora, part of French Polynesia, is perfect all year. Bora Bora’s temperatures can range from a low of 75ºF to a high of 86ºF. This slice of paradise is known for its turquoise waters, lush mountains, and fantastic resorts. It’s the perfect place to get away from the frigid air and snow!

Oahu, Hawaii

Hawaii is one of the warmest places in the US to escape the cold. Oahu is the most visited island in Hawaii and for obvious reasons! The weather is around 75-80ºF during the winter months which makes it the perfect time to explore this part of the US. Hawaii is a great option for those who aren’t able to travel to an international destination but want to go somewhere totally new.

Colombia

Medellin in particular is known as the City of Eternal Spring due to its perfect climate all year long. Other popular cities in Colombia also remain warm/hot year-round as well. Colombia is also a very affordable destination for travelers and easy to get to for US travelers as well. Cheap flights can be easy to find in January and February from various US cities.

Key West, Florida

Visit the southernmost destination in the continental US for year-long warmth and sun! This would be the top recommendation of all places in Florida to visit for the winter. Key West is the perfect tropical getaway without ever actually leaving the US. The temperatures are typically around 75ºF.
