Jackson Hole in November

While it was freezing, fewer crowds and the beautiful scenery made it all worth visiting during Thanksgiving week. There are a few things to note when traveling to Jackson Hole before the ski resorts open for the season:

  • Many restaurants will be closed during the off season.
  • Skiing doesn’t open until the very end of November.
  • Plenty of time to take in the beauty.

The best thing about Jackson Hole is being 30 minutes away from Grand Teton. On the way you can enjoy the National Elk Refuge, see moose in their natural habitat, and take a picture at the Grand Teton National Park sign! The little town of Jackson Hole is filled with restaurants, coffee shops, souvenir shops, and that “small-town feeling.”

We stayed in an AirBnb right outside of Jackson, it had a Wilson address. It was 10 minutes away from everything in Jackson Hole. It was also a short drive to the Idaho border. Had the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park been open during this time, it would’ve been about a 2.5 hour to that side of the park. That provides a scenic drive in the winter. Since the west entrance was closed, we drove up toward Big Sky, Montana and really got a chance to take in the beauty of Idaho and Montana in November.

Another plus side of the AirBnb we stayed in was that it was in a little village called “The Aspens.” This village has a market, coffee shop, book store, and more! This was so convenient for sure! While our AirBnb was not “luxurious” by any mean, it was located PERFECTLY!!

Hiking in Grand Teton National Park

First things first, snowshoes are a personal preference. Based on my experience and the trails hiked, I didn’t feel like it was worth the money (unless you’re trying to make it more difficult). Now with that being said, if you do want to rent snowshoes do it at Skinny Skis! They were so kind and made the process super easy and quick. My favorite trail is the Taggart Lake trail. It was short and not too difficult. Hiking it in the winter made it feel so peaceful. There was silence besides the very few sounds of nature and the mountains were COVERED in snow. Along with that, the lake was frozen over and the temps were icy so it truly felt like a place I’ve never been (which is true because I had never been). It snowed the entire hike which was why laying was SO important!! I will link a place to find other great hikes in Grand Teton below.
