I will be honest, I didn’t plan near enough time for this park. I heard that you should definitely visit this state park, but I truly didn’t understand how much time I should budget here! You absolutely should give yourself at least a half a day to explore this park! Honestly, this would be an amazing place to camp. Dead Horse Point was absolutely beautiful and I wish we wouldn’t have treated it as a quick stop along the way.
Hiking Trails in Dead Horse Point State Park
Easy:
- Dead Horse Point Overlook: This trail is 200 ft one way and very easy!
- Visitor Center Nature Trail: 1/8 mile roundtrip and very easy because it features a paved path.
- The Colorado River Overlook: also an easy trail which is about a mile long.
- East Rim Trail System: this trail is a bit longer at 1.5-2 miles long but also considered easy!
Moderate:
- West Rim Trail System: this trail is the longest in the park and also the one that we hiked part of! It is 2.5-3.5 miles one way, we only walked about a mile total (insert regretful sigh emoji). While this trail is considered moderate, most of what we hiked wasn’t too bad and the views were beautiful!!
- The Bighorn Trail Overlook: the trail is 1.5 miles long, one way.
With all of the unique trail options and most of them being fairly quick and easy to hike, it is easy to see why you should spend your time exploring the whole park! Why not hike all of the trails for these epic views?? Dead Horse Point is so unique and stunning and it would be a shame for you to miss it! Each trail is an official trail from the Utah State Parks site and remember to follow the trails and leave no trace.
